Every time you talk about tendrils I have a moment of confusion like "wait whaaa... OH RIGHT that's what she calls the disheveled hair look" and now that you point it out you are ABSOLUTELY right. There has been an Absence.

AND, okay so I know I'm conspiracizing now. But like in the scene in 3.01 where you see him doing personal grooming in the mirror and cleaning up his apartment and talking to Sharon, he clearly has gotten a handle on some of the things that fell by the wayside when he was struggling last season. But like it's also fake? He's managing his day to day life but he's still suffering he's just reconstructed a slightly different facade. So hypothesis time: his keeping his hair neat is a part of that and we'll get your tendrils again in the scene where that facade finally crumbles and he has to admit he's still not doing well

No, seriously though, I think you’re onto something here! I’m still of the mind that Ted isn’t as worse off as some of us think. I think he has established some healthier habits and patterns, so I’m wondering if its less a facade thing and maybe more of a 1 step forward, two steps back deal? Especially because we can see this Jake thing causing our baby boy to spiral. Which, makes sense. All healing is messy, it’s not linear, full of obstacles, etc etc. And we know that even if there HAS been progress, there’s still a lot more journey left in his healing. Otherwise, we probably wouldn’t have gotten the close up of his face. So yeah, I think you’re right. We’re really in it, and there is for sure another dark forest moment for him. And it makes me sad. We just want our boy to win! ☹️
